How to Make Google Chrome More Touch-Friendly

Creatively, Google Chrome isn't as touch-friendly as Microsoft's Edge browser. However you can make it more touch-friendly by enabling some hidden features. You can easily edit some hidden settings in Google Chrome to make you Windows tablet or touch screen PC have more touch supports.

The hidden settings you are going to tweak will make Chrome to recognize your taps better and add features like new copying and pasting buttons for the URL bar. There are many settings you could tweak to add more touch-friendly features to Chrome. We've listed some of the settings you could edit to make your chrome more touch-friendly.

Here's how to make Google Chrome More Touch-Friendly

Open your Google Chrome browser.

Then type "chrome://flags" in the address bar and press Enter.

Now look for the settings below or you just press the Ctrl+F keys on your keyboard to open the search box. Then search for the settings below and edit them.

Enable touch events

This setting will make Chrome provides touchscreen common features, such as pinching to zoom and tapping and dragging to scroll. To enable this, click on the dropdown below this and select Enabled.

Link Disambiguation Popup

This will help to zoom into links when there are two or more links beside each other, so with that you can avoid tapping on the wrong link. Click on Enable to enable this feature.

Touch initiated drag and drop

This will let you to long-press on a draggable element in Chrome, such as an image, to drag and drop it. Actually, this doesn't seem to work on my Google Chrome, but you could try it out. To enable this, click on the dropdown below this and select Enabled.

Enable touch based text editing

This feature will pop up Copy, Cut, Paste, and Delete options when you click in a text field. However, you won't be able to see this setting in the latest version of Chrome (starting from 49.0), because it is already integrated in with the "Enable touch events" option. So in case you're using an older version of Chrome, you can enable this option. To enable this, click on the dropdown below this and select Enabled.

Scroll prediction

This predicts the finger's future position during scrolls allowing time to render the frame before the finger is there. Click on Enable to enable this feature.

Then click on the Relaunch button at the bottom of the flags page to restart your Chrome.

From there your new settings will be available on Chrome and can enjoy more touch friendly experience on Chrome.

The settings we listed above are just little tweaks that could enable to add more features to Chrome and make it more touch friendly. In addition, in case you want to make an on-screen keyboard to show up whenever you tap a text field, you can try using the Virtual Keyboard extension. The on-screen keyboard doesn't work for every text field, but of course can save a lot of time when using Google.
