The MTV Video Music Awards honors the best music videos and artists of the year. The 2022 ceremony will be broadcast on August 28 at 8 p.m. ET on MTV and several other Paramount networks. 

The 38th edition of the awards show will feature tributes, live performances and, as always, unforgettable on-camera moments from plenty of celebrities. Top 2022 VMA nominees include artists like Lil Nas X, Harry Styles, Jack Harlow, Foo Fighters, Olivia Rodrigo, Bad Bunny, Kendrick Lamar, and Billie Eilish. 

For the first time since 1987, the VMAs will have more than two emcees. Nicki Minaj, LL Cool J, and Jack Harlow will all share hosting duties. Minaj is also this year's recipient of the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers will be honored as 2022's Global Icons. 

How to watch the 2022 MTV VMAs

You can watch the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards live on August 28 at 8 p.m. ET on MTV, BET, CMT, Comedy Central, Logo, MTV2, Nickelodeon, CW, Paramount Network, Pop, TV Land, and VH1. 

Prior to the ceremony, pre-show coverage with performances, interviews, and red carpet footage will air live on MTV starting at 6:30 p.m ET. 

If you already have a cable or satellite pay-TV provider with MTV, you can stream the Video Music Awards using your account information via the MTV website and the MTV app. 

If you don't have cable, you can watch the 2022 MTV VMAs through a live TV streaming service with access to any of the channels that are broadcasting the show. Sling TV is the cheapest of the bunch, with plans starting at $35 a month. Though Sling doesn't include MTV in its base plan, it will stream the VMAs via BET and Comedy Central. New members can even get their first month for 50% off.

MTV and its related channels are also available on FuboTV, Youtube TV, and Hulu + Live TV. Full channel lineups vary and starting prices range between $65 and $70 a month. Though more expensive, each of these services offers a bigger selection of channels than Sling.

Can I watch the 2022 MTV VMAs for free?

You can watch the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards for free if you sign up for a trial to FuboTV or Youtube TV. Both services offer one-week free trials for new members.
