Apple iOS 15 is now available for download
Downloadable versions of Apple's latest major software update, which includes features that will help people better focus, connect with others on FaceTime, and keep track of medical records, including vaccine status and test results, are now available for purchase and installation.
Despite the fact that iOS 15 does not feature a significant design overhaul, many of the changes are in response to how our needs have changed as a result of the pandemic. Apple announced the new tools at its Worldwide Developers Conference in June, and some of them were referenced on stage during the iPhone 13 launch event last week, which took place in San Francisco.
FaceTime is one of the most significant new features for iPhone and iPad users, and it's a fitting tribute to how much time we've spent on video calls over the last 18 months to see what's new. A grid view has been added to FaceTime Group mode, allowing people to see more faces at the same time while simultaneously listening to music or watching Apple TV, Hulu, Disney+ and other streaming services together during a call. Users of Android and Windows devices can now participate as well.
On top of that, Apple (AAPL) has added features such as the ability to blur backgrounds on FaceTime and put users in focus, which is similar to the portrait mode available on iPhone photos taken with the device.
For those who are still glued to their screens on a regular basis, a new tool called Focus allows them to choose the types of notifications they want to receive and from whom they want to receive them at specific times of day. Using the "work" mode, a user can choose to only receive notifications from coworkers, email messages, and Slack messages, for example, rather than all notifications. Customers who have turned off other notifications can set a "do not disturb" auto-response for messages they receive.
Apple is also putting more emphasis on its digital wallet, which can now be used to unlock doors and hotel rooms that are equipped with the necessary technology. Driver's licenses and state identification cards are accepted at airport security checkpoints in a small number of states in the United States.
Immunization status and test results are now supported by the Health app; health care providers or states in the United States can provide QR codes that can be downloaded and stored directly on the app. Health data sharing is also now available, allowing a family member to better manage and keep track of the data or health needs of a child or elderly parent who lives with them.
The ability to pin messages in Messages that users may not want to forget, as well as a slew of new security features, including one dubbed "mail privacy protection," are among the other notable iOS 15 additions. The email app on Apple devices will mask users' IP addresses and geographic locations, making it impossible for companies sending emails to link that information to the users' other online activities, according to Apple.
To obtain the latest software, navigate to the Software Update section of the Settings menu. However, the first version of next-generation mobile software updates can frequently contain bugs; users may want to back up important photos or files before downloading, or they may want to wait until the second version, which is expected to be released in the coming weeks, before downloading.
