Telegram Now Has a Feature to Import WhatsApp Chat Histories

The messaging platform, Telegram, has added the function to import your WhatsApp chat history, which means you won't lose previous conversations if you want to switch messaging apps. On iOS, the feature came with version 7.4, released and spotted by 9to5Mac.

Telegram later announced that the feature is also available for Android users. Along with WhatsApp, chat messages from KakaoTalk and Line can also be imported, according to the changelog of Telegram's iOS. There have been verifications that on iOS, you can import WhatsApp chats into the latest Telegram version, and you can continue the conversation, inasmuch as each WhatsApp user has a Telegram account.

The feature comes as the platform records huge increases in the users. The service now has  500 million + active users worldwide. The addition seems to be because of the new WhatsApp's privacy policy, which has caused privacy concerns about Facebook's messaging app (WhatsApp halted the introduction of the new policy and insists it will not affect the privacy of consumer profile data or chats). For users who switch, being able to take their chat history with them means a lower hindrance to migrate.

Importing

The import procedure is carried out on a chat-by-chat basis but seems to work for both individual and group conversations, especially for WhatsApp. To import chats from Facebook messaging service on iOS, open a relevant conversation and tap the contact or group name at the top of the chat to open the info screen. From there, the "Export Chat" feature opens the iOS sharing sheet, where you will see an option to pick Telegram. Select a Telegram chat in which to import messages.

Meanwhile, on Android, Telegram indicates that WhatsApp's "Export Chat" option can be processed by tapping the three-dot at the top right of a chat, then selecting "More."

Every imported message into chats has a small "Imported" label that notes when they were originally forwarded and when they were imported to Telegram. All the chat participants can see the messages. You have the option to import chat with or without pictures. Imported messages display in the order in which they are imported, instead of the sequence in which they were originally sent.

Conclusion

Telegram’s feature for importing chat histories comes with a lot of additional enhancements, such as the ability to adjust volumes for individual voice chat or reporting "fake channels or groups " trying to impersonate organizations and celebrities.
