You can also teach yourself to code online. Course Report, a careers resource and matchmaking company for people interested in e-learning courses, recently shared with Business Insider that more users are searching for online coding boot camps than ever before.
A physical classroom hasn't been the only place for education for quite some time, and now may be an opportunity for you to upskill while social distancing.
According to a Statista report published in August 2019, more than 23,000 people graduated from coding bootcamps, accounting for 171% growth in online education, since 2018. Online bootcamps cost an average of $13,584 per program enrollment and take about 15 weeks to complete. Graduates reported an average starting salary of $72,058, and typically take jobs as engineers, data scientists, or UX/UI designers, Course Report told Business Insider.
While online coding classes are cheaper than in-person sessions, Liz Eggleston, cofounder and editor at Course Report, said that these classes may be even cheaper now. Several virtual bootcamps recently announced scholarships for people whose jobs have been impacted by COVID-19.
For example, fully remote school Thinkful dedicated $1.5 million to scholarship funds and is offering a 30-day free trial for courses in engineering, data science, and web design. Five other coding programs — like Launch House, Lighthouse Labs, and Promino Tech — are also working to alleviate economic pressures caused by COVID-19 and creating more flexible for current and prospective students.
Business Insider compiled a ranking of the best online boot camps with the highest reviews on Course Report. The reviews are rated by students and alumni in 2019. The 5-star reviews are based on users' assessment of the schools' overall experience, curriculum, instructors, and job assistance.
