Is Amazon now letting you turn ypur Fire tablet into a Echo Show? Find out here to the details!
Amazon now lets you turn your Fire tablet into an Echo Show Amazon wants you to think that your Fire tablet is not just a tablet, but a device fully enabled for Alexa, or more precisely, a reduced Echo Show. It's called Show Mode, and is presented as a free software update for the current generation of the Fire HD 8 and Fire HD 10 tablets. Like the Echo Show, the new mode displays full-screen images to complement voice responses of Alexa. Without touching your tablet, you can ask Alexa to see the latest news, weather report, calendars, camera broadcasts and more. In addition to the software update, which will begin to be implemented on July 2, Amazon is also introducing the Show Mode Charging Dock, a docking station for the current generation Fire HD 8 and Fire HD 10 that includes a cover that adheres magnetically to the dock, fixing your device in place on the angled stand. I had the opportunity to see an initial demo of Show Mode and left thinking it was a pretty clever addition. If you already have a case with built-in support, you can put your Fire tablet in Show mode (access the function by sliding down from the top of the tablet to display the configuration menu) and pretend that your tablet is an Echo Show. The set of microphones on a Fire tablet is not as robust as the one you get with an Echo device, but in a relatively quiet room, your tablet should listen to your voice commands from several feet away. To get even richer audio sound, Amazon suggests that you connect your Fire tablet to an external speaker via Bluetooth. The loading dock of the Show mode simply creates a more elegant entertainment experience. The enclosure has a short, integrated micro-USB charging cable that connects to the USB port on the bottom of the tablet.
