Samsung Galaxy Note 9 will launch on August 9, feature mysterious button

Invitation image for the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 launch.

  • Samsung sent out the invitation for the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 launch, which will happen on August 9.
  • The invitation image shows a closeup of a button, and we have no idea what it is.
  • It could be that the button isn’t even on the phone, but on the stylus or maybe a set of headphones.

Samsung today sent out the invite above for its upcoming Samsung Unpacked event, which will be the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 launch. As you can see, the Note 9 launch will happen on August 9, 2018, as we previously heard.

As you can also see in the invite image, there’s some sort of button on display. However, we have no idea what it is.

From the looks of it, it doesn’t appear to be a home button. Since the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 didn’t have a home button – and both the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S9 didn’t either – it’s incredibly unlikely that Samsung would bring back the home button for the Note 9.

Editor's Pick

It could potentially be a close-up of the power button on the side of the device. Samsung emphasizing this aspect of the Note 9 could mean that there’s something special about the power button. Maybe it doubles as a fingerprint scanner?

The color of the device in the photo is also unusual, as the yellow/gold tone isn’t something we’ve seen before with a Note device.

However, it could be that this button isn’t even on the phone at all. Maybe it’s a Bixby button that appears on a set of headphones? Or a new button on the stylus? Those both seem unlikely, but it’s anyone’s guess at this point.
