The Moto Z and Moto Z Force might have been impressive smartphones in 2016, but the Moto Z Play proved to be one of the better mid-range options. As such, people are understandably excited about its sequel, the Moto Z2 Play, which hopes to once again be one of the better smartphones for your mid-range budget in 2017.
Luckily for those folks, the Moto Z2 Play is already available in the U.S. and Canada, though U.K. residents will need to wait a bit longer to get their hands on the phone. Regardless, we have plenty of information as to where and when you can buy the Moto Z2 Play, as well as how much cheddar you will need to drop.
Moto Z2 Play U.S. availability
In the U.S., you can purchase the Moto Z2 Play in either Lunar Grey or Fine Gold. Regardless of the color choice, people have two versions to pick from: the Verizon version, which is available now, or the unlocked version, which will arrive later this summer.
If you opt for Verizon, the carrier throws in the JBL SoundBoost Moto Mod with your purchase. As with any promotion, Verizon’s includes a bit of fine print, but it it results in a cheaper smartphone that gives you a free teaser into the world of Moto Mods.
Keep in mind that, if you want to purchase the Moto Z2 Play through a carrier, the only way to do so is through Verizon.
Carriers
Verizon
Here is how much the Moto Z2 Play costs with the current promotion:
- Moto Z2 Play: $408 (full retail) or $10 per month for 24 months
Verizon also has a bundle with your purchase of the Moto Z2 Play, which you can find here:
- Get the Moto Z2 Play with a free JBL SoundBoost Moto Mod (new line of service and $408 device payment purchase required. Less $168 bill credit applied to account over 24 mos; begins w/ 1-2 cycles and ends when balance is paid; 0% APR. Upgrade ineligible. Max 5 lines. Free Moto Mod mailed w/in 6 wks after receipt of claim. While supplies last.)
Additional retailers
If visiting a Verizon store is not your cup of tea, you can visit your local Best Buy to purchase the Moto Z2 Play. Carrier exclusivity remains with Verizon, however, so if you want the phone to play nice with AT&T or T-Mobile towers, you will want to wait for the unlocked version.
Best Buy
Similar to Verizon, Best Buy also knocked some dollars off the amount you will pay for the Moto Z2 Play if you opt for monthly payments, but not as much as Big Red. Even so, you can buy the device outright for the same $408, so it comes down to whether a Verizon or Best Buy store is closest to you.
Motorola
Of course, if you want to get it directly from Motorola, you are more than welcome to. The Verizon version is the only one available through the company’s site at the time of this writing, though that is set to change once the unlocked version arrives.
Buying the Moto Z2 Play through Verizon also nets you a free JBL SoundBoost 2 Moto Mod and you can either purchase the phone outright for $408 or finance it through Affirm for at least $22.67 per month.
Moto Z2 Play U.K. availability
Motorola’s U.K. arm kicked off pre-orders for the Moto Z2 Play on July 6 through its official website, as well as retailers like John Lewis, Amazon, and Argos, though there do not appear to be product pages from the latter three just yet.
