Best new games on iPhone and iPad

Here's what's new in iOS gaming this week!

Every Thursday I go on a quest to find all the notable new games released on the App Store over the week, but instead of taking all the gold and experience for myself, I pass my knowledge on to you! Whether you're looking for new games, games on sale, or wondering if your favorite game got a big update, I'll break down all the notable iOS gaming news for you!

New games of the week

Need something new and shiny? Every week tons of games hit the App Store, and I keep track, so you don't have to; here are the notable releases for this week.

SEGA Forever Collection

SEGA surprised and delighted gamers everywhere by announcing a bunch of classic games would be coming to iOS for free!

The new collection of SEGA games — called SEGA Forever — will be updated every month to include classics from the glory days of SEGA consoles.

Five titles are already available in the SEGa Forever collection:

  • Sonic the Hedgehog: The original 1991 classic that started a huge and successful franchise.

  • Phantasy Star II: The hit futuristic RPG that has been a fan favorite since its release in 1989.

  • Comix Zone: The wacky comic book style adventure game from the SEGA Genesis console.

  • Kid Chameleon: The original sunglasses-wearing badass platformer.

  • Altered Beast: All the side-scrolling beat 'em up action you could possibly want!

All these great classic games are available for free with a cloud-based game saving system; however, if you want to play the games with no ads and able to save your files locally, you'll need to pay $1.99.

Age of Rivals

Self-described as an "anti-deckbuilding" strategy card game, Age of Rivals is designed to test your tactical decision-making skills in short head-to-head matches. Inspired by strategy boardgames, you'll need to balance your military, culture, and economy to get the best of your opponent.

With over 200 hundred unique cards found in the game, the strategies to employ are endless, making this game one you can replay over and over again.

The Little Acre

Set in 19050s Ireland, The Little Acre is an adventure game that follows the story of Aidan and his daughter, Lily. Aidan's father has gone missing, and after investigating his disappearance, Aidan finds himself transporting away to a strange world. Now, Lily sets off on a journey to find her father and grandfather, encountering her own perils along the way.

The entire game is done in a hand-crafted art style that looks gorgeous and they even got voice actors for all the different characters.

Brawl Stars

NOTE: Brawl Stars is currently undergoing a "soft launch" and is only available on the Canadian App Store.

From mega-developer Supercell (Clash of Clans and Clash Royale), comes a new, ridiculously fun multiplayer game called Brawl Stars!

Reveal in a surprise live stream tournament yesterday, Brawl Stars is a 3v3 shooter game, where players from all over the world battle in four game modes: Bounty, Smash and Grab, Heist, and Showdown. Players will have the option to choose from multiple characters known as brawlers, and each brawler has a different attack style and super ability.

The game is vibrant, fast-paced, and a ton of fun. If you happen to be a lucky Canadian like me, you should definitely give this game a try!
