You can once again AirPlay Android devices to Apple TV with doubleTwist

doubleTwist has long been a powerful app that not only plays lossless music and fine-tunes your listening experience with a 10-band EQ, but has also been an ingenious way for Android users to access their iTunes library. Normally this is a feature reserved for the iOS ecosystem, but doubleTwist found a way to AirPlay songs through Apple TV on an Android device.

In late March, however, Apple released an update to tvOS that broke doubleTwist’s ability to tie into Apple TV and be used for music streaming. Apple once again walled up their garden, but thankfully, the devs have since restored access to AirPlay in version 2.7.8 of its doubleTwist Pro app.

In 2011 this app was almost an essential way to listen to music without having to be wired via a headphone jack to the speakers. Nowadays, we don’t even have headphones jacks we have products such as the Chromecast Audio that not only work with any operating system, but also cost for less than a $149 Apple TV.

Of course, the app is still useful in linking your iTunes library to your Android device, but with more and more people switching to streaming services instead of owning digital songs, even this feature is being outgrown in 2017.

What do you think? Do you still use AirPlay to stream music throughout the house or office? Or have you opted to use a different service?
