What are the latest games worth checking out in the Google Play Store?
There are thousands and thousands of games available in the Google Play Store, with more being added every month. With so much content hitting the app store, it can be damn near impossible to keep up on all the latest releases and determine which games are worth your time.
Here at Android Central, we want to help. We'll be using this space to let you know about the latest gaming releases for Android that we think deserve your attention. We'll be checking in and updating this page weekly as new games are released, so refresh often!
Update April 7: We've got a good variety of gaming content this week! Check out the pre-release version of Tempest, play the incredibly challenging rogue-like platformer Meganoid, and solve cases using augmented reality with Archer, P.I.!
Tempest (early release)
Tempest is a game that seems too good to be true. Featuring stunning graphics and epic sea battles in an open world of endless seas, this pirate-based RPG sure looks promising.
Originally launched on Steam, Tempest has been ported to Android and is currently available as a pre-release title in the Google Play Store. Assemble your crew of cutthroat sailors and upgrade them from green hands to weathered sea wolves as you plunder galleons, sink enemy warships and do battle with epic sea monsters.
There are hundreds of quests throughout the dozens of islands you're free to explore. Stockpile your treasure so you can upgrade and customize your ships so you can be king of the seas!
Again, this game is unreleased and currently in beta so you may experience some bugs, but it feels really polished you can check it out for only $0.99. Fans of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise should especially enjoy this title, so check it out.

Meganoid
I'll admit it, I'm a huge fan of rogue-like games. I think they're pretty much perfect games for mobile, providing a brand new challenge every time you load up a new game. I've yet to find one I haven't enjoyed.
Meganoid is the latest rogue-like platformer to land in the Google Play Store. As the name suggests, it kind of plays like a mix between Mega Man and Metroid, which is a pretty sweet mix if you ask us. It's the latest game in OrangePixel's Meganoid franchise, so if the $3.99 price makes you take pause, you may want to try out the first Meganoid game, which is free to play.
Fair warning: This game is HARD. Levels are procedurally generated so when (not if, when) you die and start over, you essentially get a brand new experience. There's a lot of weapon upgrades and secret areas to discover — if you're able to stay alive long enough to find them. We're talking jetpacks, anti-gravity boots and much much more!
There's so much to collect in this game and you have the freedom to make your way through levels however you see fit. Will you take your time and try and collect as much stuff as possible, or go for a speed run through each area trying to get as far as you can? The choice is yours!
Archer, P.I.
Archer is a wildly popular animated show that has found a new home on FXX for its eighth season. After focusing on Archer's "International Secret Intelligence Service" through the first four seasons, the show runners started reconfiguring the show to lampoon other tropes like season five's Miami Vice-style and season seven's focus shift to a private detective agency theme. In the newest season, Archer: Dreamland, the show has adopted a 1940s film-noir theme — with a companion mobile game where you solve cases while you watch the show.
Archer, P.I. ties into the new season in ways we haven't really seen from a TV show before. In the game, you're tasked with solving cases, and you'll need to use your phone's camera and augmented reality to find clues which are scattered throughout the show — and also throughout the real world.
This isn't the first time the folks behind Archer have lead viewers on a weird scavenger hunt, but it is the first tie in with a mobile app. If you need some help catching up and tips (aka spoilers) for where to find clues, you'll want to check out the Archer subreddit, which is sure be a great resource for people playing along throughout the season.
It's a very interesting concept that fans of the show should definitely check out.
