Bawk at your phone with Chicken Scream! [Best New Games for Android]

What are the latest games worth checking out in the Google Play Store?

There are thousands and thousands of games available in the Google Play Store, with more being added every month. With so much content hitting the app store, it can be damn near impossible to keep up on all the latest releases and determine which games are worth your time.

Here at Android Central, we want to help. We'll be using this space to let you know about the latest gaming releases for Android that we think deserve your attention. We'll be checking in and updating this page weekly as new games are released, so refresh often!

Update April 14: We've got are some fresh new games to play this weekend. Make some noise with Chicken Scream, dive into a deep RPG throwback with Planetscape: Torment or explore space as a snake in Tap Tap Galaxy Snake Line!

Chicken Scream

Chicken Scream is a fun game that's simple and challenging. Pretty much anyone can play — as long as they're comfortable with looking and sounding a bit foolish. We featured another game that was very similar to this one a few weeks back, but Chicken Scream is much smoother and features other game modes that make it worth it.

On its surface, Chicken Scream is a very basic platformer, but it's set apart from the rest of the pack by its controls. You control your chicken by making quiet sounds to move forward, then scream or shout to make the chicken jump — hence the name. This dead simple platformer has "gone viral" because of course it has. Everyone looks a bit silly playing this game, whether you're talking and shouting your way over spikes, singing to your chicken, or just muttering and screaming like a maniac and totally freaking your cat out.

This game is a riot to pass and play amongst friends or family, but wouldn't typically be a game you'd play on a bus. However, in the latest updates Perfect Tap Games have started to add new mini-games weekly to the "Adventure" game mode, which are equally as simple as the screaming game, but (thankfully) much quieter to play with traditional touch controls. This game is free, so also expect to deal with tons of ads.

If you're spending some quality time with family this weekend, Chicken Scream could be a fun little game to pull out after dinner. It's a game that literally anyone can pick up and play with hilarious results.

Planetscape: Torment (Enhanced Edition)

The original Planetscape: Torment might ring a bell for old school gaming and Dungeon and Dragons fans — the game was originally released way back in 1999 as a 2D dungeon crawler game based on the Baldur's Gate engine. It has recently been given a new coat of paint with the "Enhanced Edition" landing in the Google Play Store.

If you're unfamiliar with RPGs from this era in gaming, you'll probably want to approach with caution. Combat takes a back seat to story development here, so there's a lot of reading to be done. You play as The Nameless One, a hulking figure covered in scars and tattoos with no recollection of who you are, where you came from, or what your purpose is — only a floating, talking skull to provide you company. As you head out on your search for answers, you'll run across all sorts of bizarre creatures and characters, some of which will join your party and help you on your quest.

This is described as a 50+ hour RPG, so you shouldn't have to worry about getting your full money's worth — as long as the story and gameplay is enough to hold your attention. This game has been given an updated look for the re-release, and is playable on an Android phone… But the smaller menus and controls that demand precise touches make things too difficult on such a small screen.

If you've got a decent Android tablet (perhaps the Samsung Tab S3) and love deep, Dungeons and Dragons fantasy lore, you'll love Planetscape: Torment Enhanced Edition.

Tap Tap Galaxy Snake Line

Tap Tap Galaxy Snake Line feels like a nice throwback to two arcade classics: Asteroids and Snake. In it you play as a mystical glowing space snake slithering it's way through the galaxy, avoiding the meteoroids and space junk in its path.

Controls are simple in this endless runner (or should we say slither?) — you tap to change your snake's direction. The snake travels at a pretty steep angle, so to go straight you need to repeatedly tap. If your snake hits the edge of the screen it transports back to the other side (just like so many other classic arcade games), so the only way to die is by running into one of those damned meteoroids.

Along the way you'll be able to snag power ups which will help you stay alive longer. It's a simple and fun time waster that's surprisingly challenging the further you get into it. It's free, with ads that aren't super intrusive, so check it out!
