How to Take Care of Your Skin in Winter

Winter can be the most cozy time of the year. Just think about it: warm fire lit by the fireplace and family members gathered around it sipping their cup of hot chocolate, stuffed turkey roasting in the kitchen and oh-so-yummy desserts waiting to be shared and enjoyed. While you may be having the time of your life though, the winter weather could be sucking the life out of your skin!

Call Out The Beauty Emergency.

Dry, flaky, lifeless skin — it’s a cause for alarm and you should be concerned. The first thing that you must know is that these unbearable, unthinkable, unsightly skin conditions are not normal in winter, no matter how much you or your friends have been experiencing so for the past decade.  The thing is, your skin doesn’t have to suffer this pitiful condition.  Below are beauty tips for dry skin that you can follow:

1. Limit Outdoor Time

There are fun winter activities that you can do outdoors and you shouldn’t miss out on those. We strongly agree that creating precious moments and experiences with people you care for are of utmost importance. All that we’re saying is that it doesn’t have to come at the expense of your skin.

So, do what you got to do in the snow but, make sure to keep to a limited time only. How many hours? That depends on your skin tolerance but, generally not more than an hour of continuous exposure in the chilly air.

2. Takeover Indoor Environmental Conditions

The reason why you want to spend most of your time indoors is because you can influence the temperature and moisture inside walled spaces. Turn the heater to a comfortable degree only — not too hot, not too cold.  You should also add a humidifier in your indoor spaces to make sure surrounding air stays moist.

3. Carry Around a Mister in Your Purse

Whether indoors or outdoors, at least you have something to wet the air around you when you feel it begin to suck out the moisture and life out of your skin.  Spray about five inches away from your face. Make sure that your mist does not contain any irritating ingredients. Remember, it doesn’t have to be fancy.

4. Wash Your Face and Bathe Twice Daily

By removing oil and dirt sitting on the surface of your skin, you are allowing your skin to breathe more easily. The real culprit when washing and bathing is the tap, which could be too hot for your skin, and the products that you are using which could be harsh. These can strip off your skin’s natural moisture and cause inflammation and damage.

5. Exfoliate and Scrub

Most people won’t even consider these. However, these basic beauty steps remain beneficial in winter as they do in spring. In fact, more debris are seated on your skin’s outer layers in winter because dry, dead skin is so common and your skin is shedding a lot. That’s why you need to exfoliate and scrub to get these off of your skin and allow a new skin layer to surface.

6. Moisturize

Under such dry, freezing weather, your skin will appreciate receiving any kind of moisture to help revive and rejuvenate it.  You owe it to your skin though to be just as choosy with the products you use as in any other time of the year. Rather than going for a long lineup of moisturizing products, you should go for the quality of the products that you are using.

Stick to at least two moisturizers. Use one that can easily be absorbed and used up by your skin most especially a non-fragrant, cosmetic grade essential oil.  Make the other a heavier, more emollient cream. Use a more robust lineup for your nighttime routine.

7. Keep a Bottle of Water in Hand

Still, the best way to keep your skin hydrated is by taking in the moisture and allowing it to act on your skin. So, don’t forget your fluids. Make it more hearth warming by sipping on cups of hot soup to keep you warm but also to keep your skin moist.

 CONCLUSION

Knowing how to take care of your skin in winter is a sensitize thing. Hence, we should get it right. Writer, Anton Chekhov, once wrote, ”People don’t notice whether it’s winter or summer when they’re happy.” You should allow your skin to experience the same. Keep it happy throughout the seasons by taking better care of it so, it wouldn’t have to dread winter ever again, neither should you.
