How to connect an AirPrint printer to your Mac

With AirPrint you can connect it to your Apple device and print from your printer provided that you have both devices connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

So how do you connect an AirPrint printer to your Mac because in this tutorial we’ll be talking about how to do just that?

Now you need to ensure your printer is connected to your Wi-Fi network before you proceed because AirPrint works only over Wi-Fi. The AirPrint printer will always come with step-by-step instructions used to connect the device to your home Wi-Fi network. So go ahead and follow those steps first. The instructions in connecting it to a Wi-fi network will be different, due to differences in the Printers Manufacturer.

So ensure your Mac is connected to your Wi-Fi network as well as ensure your printer is connected to your Wi-Fi network.

Open the file you want to print.

Then press the keyboard shortcut “Command + P” for printing or select File and click on “Print from the Mac's menu bar.”

Then click on the Printer dropdown in the Print menu dialog to search for the Printer’s name. If the name of your printer shows up, then you're good to go!

And in case it doesn't show the name of your printer, click on Add Printer…

Then a menu will appear. Just look for your printer's name on the list and select it.

Also enure the Use: dropdown menu is set to AirPrint.

Now click on “Add” to add your printer.

That’s it, you are are ready to go! All you need to do now is to Print from your new AirPrint printer!

Troubleshooting

Everything should work fine once you followed the above steps but in case you run into any trouble while setting up your AirPrint printer, there are a few things you can try to fix it!

The first thing is to ensure that you're running the latest version of macOS on your Mac and iOS on your iOS devices.

Ensure your printer is updated to the latest software and firmware. You can seek your printer's user guide for steps on updating your printer firmware.

In case you've your printer or another printer connected to your Mac or to your network via USB while connecting, then AirPrint won’t be able to work. Ensure you remove any other printer connected to your Mac

Ensure both your mac and printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
